Each Program services our ELL population with Designated and Integrated English Language Development.

 Mainstream English 
 
SUMMARY/DEFINITION: PROGRAM COMPONENTS:
Designed for all students and English Learners who have "reasonable fluency." The goal is for students to develop language in core contents areas with support in primary language if needed by a bilingual teacher or paraprofessional.  The English Learners in the Mainstream English are encouraged to work in their primary language as they acquire the second language.  Their primary language is viewed as an asset as they  learn English as a second language.   
Daily Designated ELD- protected time of teaching that focuses on how the English language works. 
Integrated ELD- language building strategies that occur in core content classes. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Alternative Program- Dual Language Academy
 
SUMMARY/DEFINITION: PROGRAM COMPONENTS:
Designed as an enrichment educational approach, where the goal is mastery of two languages: English and Spanish. Both ELL and English Only students are serviced. 
Daily Designated ELD- protected time of teaching that focuses on how the English language works. 
Integrated ELD- language building strategies that occur in core content classes. 
LUSD follows the 50/50 model in which 50% of the instruction is in English and 50% is in Spanish.
